Abstract—In wireless ad hoc networks, all its nodes behaveas routers and take part in its discovery and maintenance ofroutes to other nodes. Thus, the presence of selfish ormalicious nodes could greatly degrade the networkperformance and might even result in a totalcommunication breakdown. However, the majority of adhoc networks secure routing protocols assumed that allnodes participating in the network are cooperative tosupport different network functionalities and did notprovide a complete solution against these attacks. In thispaper, we propose a cooperative secure routing protocolbased on reputation system (CSRAN) for wireless ad hocnetworks to defend against these attacks efficiently. It isbased on ARAN secure routing protocol and detailedanalysis is given to show it proves to be more efficient andmore secure than original ARAN secure routing protocol indefending against both malicious and authenticated selfishnodes.
