An Effective Approach for Live Media Streaming Based on BitTorrent

Abstract—In this paper, we present a solution thatincorporates BitTorrent mechanism into P2P streaming. Inour solution, several modifications have been incorporatedinto BitTorrent to support on-time delivery. First, we givethe pieces different priorities based on their scheduledplayback deadline. Second, source behaves in a push-basedway instead of pull-based way. Finally, we import a blockleveltit-for-tat policy and periodical examination of activeneighbors to avoid low start and reinforce the fairness ofsystem. Our simulations indicate that our proposalsimprove the bandwidth utilization and accommodate highscalability and resilience, and a good streaming quality canbe achieved.
