Abstract—In this paper, we study the effects of channelestimation error on the bit-error-rate (BER) of orthogonalfrequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems infrequency-selective slowly Rayleigh fading channels. Dueto the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and theintercarrier interference (ICI) caused by the residual carrierfrequency offset (CFO), the channel estimation based onthe training symbols is not perfect. We characterize theperformance degradation resulting from imperfect channelstate information (CSI) by deriving the BER formulas forBPSK, QPSK, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM modulation schemes. The derived BER formulas contain no numerical integralsand can be evaluated easily and accurately. Simulationresults validate the correctness of our theoretical analysis.
